Oh my aching back!

Well the long ride in the car has finally caught up with Sue! Yesterday Sue left work to attend a funeral, as she sat down she felt something in her back. She thought oh no, but kept saying to herself this will pass. She went back to work and after the end of work went to several grocery stores to get items for Saturday's celebration for Kristy's birthday.

Kristy and family are coming in for the day. Actually her birthday was the 5th but she has this weekend off and now has a car to get to Staunton in. So, she decided she would like to come to Staunton for the day. Well, Sue is very excited about seeing the grandchildren also (first time since Christmas). Back to the grocery store story. As she was putting the cart back at the last store she felt this terrible pain in her back. She managed to finally get back to the car and get in. She called Roger and told him she was on her way and might need help. He met her at the car and helped her in the house. She sat on the couch and Roger unloaded the car and put away the groceries. When Sue got up from the couch she let out a yelp! The pain was excruciating, but after that it subsided a bit. Roger decided what must have happened is the disc must have slipped out at the grocery store and when she got up off the couch it slipped back in. After Sue thought about it she realized he was most likely correct. So now, she is suffering from the after effects -- and the aches and discomfort.

Her neurosurgeon asked to see her when she has these episodes. This is the second one and each time she has had one, she has called. But alas as with most Dr. offices it is next to impossible to get past the office staff to even speak to the Dr. let alone see him. Not to mention he is in Richmond 90 miles away. So we wait yet again for a response. Most likely this "episode" will be over by the time we hear back. Guess we will wait and see.

Roger went to the Laity Banquet without Sue this evening and told her to lie flat and not to dare get up until he gets back from Lexington. Hopefully then together they will bake Kristy's cake. Lee is helping with her birthday meal so Sue can just relax and enjoy the children. We are glad they are old enough that they will understand that Ne-Ne can't be climbed on.

So, next year Sandy and Sue have decided no driving to FL. They will fly. It is too hard on Sue's back to sit in a car that long. This aging is no fun!!! Except for the joy of grandchildren..that is such a blessing.

  1. My deepest sympathy on your back troubles. Mine has been acting up over the past few months as I was compensating for the knee pain following the surgery. I don't think there is a pain as bad as back pain. Unless you've been there, it is really hard to understand how serious it can be. Feel better soon.

  2. I hope you will get back to feeling well. And, that your doctor gets back to you soon.
