Earthquake, Hurricane, What Next?

It has been sometime since I have posted. It has been a very hot summer, little rain. Now we have been experiencing some unusual things as the title of this post indicates.

Praise the Lord, we were not affected too badly by the earthquake or the hurricane. I was sewing when the earthquake happened. At first I thought "what in the world did the electric men do when they trimmed that tree"? They had just finished. Then I realized it was an earthquake. It was the strangest feeling. My feet felt like they were vibrating for hours even after it was over. They weren't of course, but I had that sensation. Roger was at work in Richmond, and said he was sitting on a turned over bucket and it moved him and the bucket at least 6".

Kristy and family did have some damage from the high winds and rains. A tree fell on their house. Luckily they got it taken down and seems to be no damage to the house. Their electric was off from the hurricane for a bit, but they are alright.

My brother Pete and his wife's home was damaged from the earthquake. Their chimney lost bricks that neighbors said sounded like bullets when they fell. Quite a bit of damage and their insurance is not going to cover it. However I spoke with them today and they did not experience any damage from the hurricane. Their neighbors did loose trees.

This all leaves me wondering what we are in for next. In my last post I stated we would be going on vacation in September. As of now we have no plans for that. We are going to Ohio the beginning of Sept. to a joyful event. Our dear friends daughter will be getting married on the 10th. She is the daughter of Roger's best friend that passed away over 10 years ago. She asked Roger to give her away. What an honor. It was with the greatest pleasure he accepted.

Other than that we are also looking forward to our youngest granddaughter's first birthday this Wednesday. It is so hard to believe she will be one already. She is walking everywhere and the sweetest little thing. And I mean little. She may be tiny but boy does she have an attitude and boy is she strong!

I am praying for all those who were affected by the earthquake and the hurricane.

Summer is here in Staunton Virginia!!!!!!

Hello! It may not officially be summer, but in Staunton, Virginia it is. We have had 90 degree weather for several days, visitors have been arriving and today is the last day of school for the children around here.

Stephanie is here from Massachusettes so, I think officially it really is summer. When Stephanie leaves it will be time for Robin to come and do her summer "grading" and we will be anxious for her time here and chance to visit with her. Then we will be into July. Our grandchildren from up in Northern Virginia are planning to each come spend a week with us in July...so that will take the rest of July.

Roger and I will go to the beach sometime in September. We still have a few days to take yet for vacation and haven't figured out yet when we will take that. Lee started his new job and seems to be enjoying it. Tara has been dealing with a foot issue and is struggling with that.

I still watch Ella and now that school will be out I will also have Trinity which will be nice as she can help entertain Ella. Ella has grown so much. She is a real live wire. Sydney will be at her "dad's" for the summer so she won't be able to be with us. But we will see her some weekends.

We have finished a big job...we remodeled our bathroom, completed gutted it. That was a tremendous job and learned we sure are getting older and slower! But is was worth all the hard work.

Well that is the update here at the Hilt house....

How time has flown!

I can not believe it has been so long since I have posted anything. I am sooo sorry. I guess I should be ashamed of myself. I have been very busy is all I can say. Forgive me.

We had a great time on our "little vacation" to Sunset Beach, just the two of us, in the fall. Mostly just relaxing and enjoying the condo we stayed at. We didn't actually go on the beach much at all. We did visit Calablash several times and I knitted and relaxed and Roger just did what he enjoyed the most, watched "how to shows" on tv and worked a puzzle. Just quiet time and that was what he needed the most.

We had a wonderful time with everyone at the Thanksgiving meal. It was wonderful to have all my brothers here for the first time! Sorry some of the nieces and their families couldn't make it this year due to their distances but there is always 2012 right?

I started watching Ella the youngest of our grandchildren 2-3 days a week in November and I am loving every minute of it!

Christmas was wonderful with both Kristy and Lee and their families coming by. Can you believe we have 6 grandchildren now? What fun!

Ella is now 6 months old and I believe she is going to start walking any day! She would rather be up on her feet than to do anything. She loves to hold my fingers and chase our dog Lili around the room. She belly laughs while she is doing it. She and Lili are the best of friends. We call our puppy Ella's dog and keep asking Lee when he is going to take the dog home with him. He laughs and says, "ya right"!

Well, that brings you up to date and I will try and do better. Don't really know what happened with my posting, but I am again apologizing. Hope all is well with everyone and we are hoping soon spring will be here. God bless!
